Graphic design is about capturing the attention of the customer long enough to deliver a message that will inspire them to buy or believe. A good designer will use text, color, images, and graphic elements to not only communicate the message but to do it within the confines of the all-important BRAND.

The movie poster, press kit, flyers, invitations, and press pass Charion designed for the movie Charlie's War all reflect the branding created by the movie itself, as every element comes from the movie. The movie takes place during World War II, the early 1940's and the present. You can learn more about the movie by selecting this link: Charlie's War Premier.

Charion designed the logo around the red shoes from Charlie's childhood memories. Next, she developed the background to look like old kitchen floor tiles. She created a collage of images in one version of the poster and various sepia-toned photos in another.

Both posters have a current photo of the leading ladies, Olympia Dukakis and Diane Ladd. In one they are surrounded by old sepia-tone photos, which are thrown to the floor haphazardly in search of clues to haunting events in Charlie's past. The second poster design has the same picture from the present, but the collage images are from Charlie's memories and are captured in a hazy blur that surrounds both stars.

Regardless of the purpose of the graphic design piece, the brand is defined as a means of differentiating itself (product, movie, company, etc.) from others, while at the same time making it identifiable. The companies Charion works with all have very strong brand recognition. Staying true to that brand while offering some variations is an interesting challenge for every graphic artist. Charion accepts the challenge, as you will see in samples of her graphic design presented when using the navigation on the left.

The movie's Premier was held in Nashville, Tennessee and was attended by the cast, producers, author and the Queen of Daytime TV, Oprah Winfree and friends. See the premier by clicking Charlie's War Premiere.
