  Charlie's War

  Charlie's War Premier

   More to come later.

The producers of the movie Charlie's War came to Cracker Barrel to request antiques for their movie, which was set in a Southern town during World War II. They had heard of Cracker Barrel's Decor Warehouse, filled with antiques and signs. Cracker Barrel agreed to help and the little town of Watertown, Tennessee was suddenly brought back to life as a 1940's era Southern town.

When the producers began looking for some-one to design their movie poster, press kit and invitations the Company Spokesperson suggested they contact me.

The movie was about a present day woman author named Charlie (played by Olympia Dukakis), who starts having flash backs after seeing a pair of red shoes in a store window. As the movie progresses the broken memories of some dark childhood event haunts her.

Cracker Barrel's Spokesperson suggested the producers contact me about designing their movie poster and press kit.

Searching through old photo albums exacerbate the flash backs, but nothing becomes clear until her elusive older sister (played by Diane Ladd) shows up with the answers.

I designed the logo around the red shoes from Charlie's childhood memories, which the producers loved. Next, I developed the background to look like old kitchen tiles.

I designed two movie poster for the producers to choose from. The first has the current image of the sisters surrounded by old photos which are thrown to the floor haphazardly in search of clues. The second design has the same current picture, but the images from Charlie's memories are captured in a hazy blur that surrounds them both.

The producers and cast loved them both. So, the design with the photos scattered on the floor was used for the movie poster, press kit insert and one of the invitations. The second design using the hazy images surrounding the two sisters was used on the Press Kit folder and the other invitation.

The movie's Premier was held in Nashville, Tennessee and was attended by the cast, producers, author and the Queen of Daytime TV, Opra Winfree and friends. See the premier by clicking here.
